Outline:
Join two of New Zealand's Specialist Physiotherapists for the first ever course of its kind!

This practical and informative 2-day course will equip you on how to address the difficulties of persistent pelvic pain. Both Dr Jacqui Clark (Pain Specialist Physiotherapist) and Dr Melissa Davidson (Pelvic Health Specialist Physiotherapist) have a wealth of international teaching experience, PhD research knowledge, and specialist clinical skills to share with you.

In a relaxed teaching environment, this course is appropriate for musculoskeletal physiotherapists/health professionals and pelvic health physiotherapists/health professionals who want to advance their skills in the comprehensive care of individuals with persistent pelvic pain.

We will review how to recognise the difference between predominant nociceptive pain components and predominant nociplastic pain. Common female and male pelvic dysfunctions such as endometriosis, vulvodynia, prostatitis, painful bladder syndrome, hard flaccid syndrome, mesh injuries, gut pain syndromes, and more will be discussed.

You will learn evidence-based management strategies to enable individuals to reduce their pain and disability using a combination of advisory and hands-on approaches. For musculoskeletal therapists, externally focused approaches will be used, while pelvic health therapists will also learn internal treatment approaches.
What people are saying about previous courses Jacqui and Melissa have run:
As a gynaecologist, I have never fully appreciated the work and expertise of the pelvic health physiotherapist. My eyes have been opened at this course, what a privilege it has been to watch experts at work, with compassion, empathy and finesse. I have learned so much, and encouraged by the hope that there are others who can help my patients on their chronic pain journey. - Alice, Gynaecologist

A lot of very useful information and skills that can be immediately used on Monday morning. - Deborah

I attended the Pelvic Pain course with Melissa and Jacqui and thoroughly enjoyed it. The two specialists are very knowledgeable in their field and created a relaxed learning environment. The food was great too! Looking forward to attending more courses. - Elaine

The Pelvic Pain course was excellent and new assessment and treatment skills obtained can be immediately put into practice with my patients. - Frances

An excellent course with a well structured framework that allows you to deep dive into understanding and working with pelvic pain in your clinic. - Glenn, Osteopath

I highly recommend this course to anyone treating pelvic health patients, it can be applied to so many people including those who are not pelvic based, such a useful course! - Jenny

I would highly recommend this course to anyone dealing with patients with persistent pelvic pain. You gain an improved understanding of the pain mechanisms in this group of difficult patients as well as techniques and strategies which you can use immediately to better manage them. I now look forward to seeing more of these patients. Informal learning in a great venue with great food and lots of laughs chucked in. - Jo

I found this course very useful to identify nociplastic pain in complex pelvic pain patients and feel equipped with a new treatment approach that is wholistic and can also be used for people with chronic pain in other areas. - Kirsty

Participants:
There are limited places available on these courses. Both female and male health professionals are welcome. You must be a registered health professional in New Zealand (e.g., physiotherapist, osteopath, GP, etc) to attend this course.

Peer-to-peer learning is used to ensure you gain the most from the course. As this course has practical components, participants must ideally be willing and able to be examined by fellow attendees.

Only pelvic health therapists (or those health professionals who complete internal examination as part of their standard practice) will be expected to take part in internal examinations as both the therapist and the patient. We will ensure the environment is private and supportive. Informed consent is discussed in detail on the course, and you will have the ability to consent or not consent to internal examination at the time of the assessments. Some people may have known or unknown 'triggers' that might cause them psychological stresses on the course. Please let Melissa or Jacqui know in advance if you have any known triggers so we can adjust things for you.
Additional Information:
Morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea will be provided. If you have specific food requirements or allergies, we recommend you bring your own food with you.

The course is held at Melissa's home in Kinloch. Ripley and Strider, our two black labs, are ready, willing and able to provide cuddles as a key ingredient to a successful learning experience. (It is recommended that you don't wear white :-).
Pre-reading and Tests:
Pre-reading and a pre-course test will need to be completed prior to the course.

There will be practical assessments during the course testing clinical assessment skills learned on the weekend to ensure at the end of the course you are competent. These are completed throughout the weekend and done in a relaxed, comfortable fashion. You will need to pass these assessments to pass the course.

And a post-course test and evaluation form will need to be completed prior to you receiving your completion certificate.
